RMC fines 27 shopkeepers

Recovers Rs 23,000

Raipur, February 06, 2010

RMC on Saturday imposed fine on 27 shopkeepers at Malviya Road, Banjari Road and Gol Bazar areas for encroaching road for their business purpose and recovered Rs 23,000 from them. The municipal’s action came in wake of Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak’s survey of the three areas along with the businessmen from Chamber of Commerce just a day before.
Nayak had inspected the areas to see how the traffic disrupts during peak hours owing to the encroachments by the shopkeepers. She was also upset with a majority of the commercial complex owners who had either rented the parking space in the basement of their buildings or were using for other purposes.
Nayak had also appealed to all the shopkeepers to avoid occupying roads for their business and to keep their commodities within shop’s limit and had indicated that municipal would start imposing fine on the guilty people from Saturday onwards.
Today, the municipal’s anti-encroachment staff was led by Town Planner Sandeep Bagde and also comprised Zone-6 Commissioner MN Thakur. The RMC officials seized pillows and quilts from one shopkeeper for spreading such items on road in Baijnathpara.
