The RMC’s demolition squad on Wednesday razed out Topaz bar which was being operated at the corner of Telebandha pond. The action against demolition of the bar is an evident indicator that the municipal would first remove all the encroachments near the pond before commencing its beautification works.
The municipal officials informed that the bar owner Sanjay Tiwari had illegally raised the bar near the pond in about 5000 square feet area. Tiwari had also done construction over nullah besides the pond that flows from Jalvihar Colony to Anand Nagar.
The officials informed that the local residents had lodged several complaints against the bar owner in the past after which the RMC had served several notices to Tiwari to remove his illegal establishment from the locality.
However, when Tiwari did not respond, the RMC finally decided to raze out the bar. According to information, the RMC is also planning to raze the entire slum colony that illegally exists at pond’s other corner. The slum dwellers would be rehabilitated in other area for which the union government had approved Rs 24 crore.
The municipal’s demolition squad was led by Town Planner Sandeep Bangde and comprised municipal officials and employees.
When contacted, Town Planner Sandeep Bagde informed that the RMC had sent last notice to the bar owner before civic body elections but he did not reciprocate. When asked whether the municipal would take similar action other encroachers who have occupied large tracts of government lands in the city, Bagde said, “We are committed to rid the city from illegal occupants and we would continue our anti-encroachment drive in future too.”
