Contractor slashes Rs 612 from each worker’s salary

Raipur, Febuary 09, 2010

The president of RMC’s Food, Public Health and Sanitation department Govind Mishra has informed that the implementation agency - Navjyoti Mahila Swasahayata Samuh (NMSS) that got contract of maintaining cleanliness of 28 main roads of the city engaging its 545 workers was not giving complete salary to its sanitation staff.
“I learnt about this today when I inspected roads of Kalibadi area. The workers lodged written complaint against the agency informing that they get Rs 2250 per month. While when I inquired from the officials, they informed that the agency submits bill of Rs 2862 against each worker to the municipal that indicates that the contractor deliberately slashes Rs 612 from each staff,” he said.
“You can imagine how much money the NMSS is making by depriving its staffers from their deserving payment,” he said. When asked whether he had confirmed that the NMSS had actual staff strength it had merely mentioned false names on the paper to take complete salaries of 545 staffers, Mishra said, “I will definitely ask my officials to inquire into this matter.”
Mishra categorically said that he would not allow corruption in sanitation works. “After becoming Mayor-in-Council (MiC) member, this was my first surprise inspection in Zone 6. But, I am amazed that the corruption prevailed in sanitation works surfaced in my first surprise inspection of roads at Kalibadi area. I surmise my upcoming inspections would unearth many more irregularities in the system. I will not brook the anarchy prevailed in sanitation works and I am committed to expose the entire racket flourishing on this corrupt system,” he said. Mishra further informed that his department’s officials too were under his scanner and he would issue show cause notices to the responsible ones for not streamlining the implementation agency for sanitation works.
