The RMC will launch zone-wise plantation campaign soon for which commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary has directed all the zone commissioners and incharge officer of Horticulture department to take help of the social organisations, NGOs, industrialists and local residents. Choudhary’s directives came while he was reviewing municipal’s plantation works in the current monsoon at his office on Friday.
Terming trees important for Nature equilibrium and to maintain better weather conditions, Choudhary asked the officials to plant saplings up to 8-10 feet height under the zone-wise plantation drive. Informing about the benefits of large size saplings, he said the survival rate of such saplings was high as animals could not eat them and the locals could take their care more comfortably.
Choudhary further said the saplings should be planted on the roadsides and all other suitable places to make the ambience of the locality green. The municipal is committed to make the city green for which the administration has fixed responsibilities of all the zonal officials and has given them target to complete plantation works in their respective areas within the given timeframe, said Choudhary.
Expressing his concern over the declining groundwater table in the capital city, he instructed the officials to plant more number of saplings at the embankments of the ponds that would expedite natural water recharging process.
Choudhary asked the officials to provide adequate number of saplings in all the zones so that the given targets could be achieved. He appealed to the people to take initiative and to plant saplings in their surrounding areas to gift a greener Raipur to their next generation.

The Independence Day will be celebrated with colourful programs for which preparations are on final stage. Where the horse riding team and jawans of twenty platoons were busy in their final rehearsal on Friday, the children from different schools also rehearsed on dance and other cultural events. The police administration has also pulled up its socks to ensure strong security arrangements in the capital city considering naxal and other unanticipated threats.
On the occasion, 18y police officials and personnel would be felicitated with different gallantry and distinguished service awards. Where IG (EOW) DM Awasthi and ASP Abdul Rashid Khan will receive Distinguished Service medals, Jagdalpur SP P Sundarraj would be conferred upon gallantry award. Similarly, Arun Dev Gautam, KC Agrawal, Someshwar Singh Shori, Ashok Joshi, Chandramoshwar Gade, Tulsi Prasad Sahu and Balmat Singh Dhruv will receive Indian Police medal while Gowardhan Singh Sori and Tilakchand Kachlaria will receive medals their reformative works. Another cop Imil Lakra will be felicitated with Rs 15,000 cash award, citation and shield under Guru Ghasidas award.
The other award winners are - Governor award - ASI Jhabbulal Sahu, Chief Minister award – Inspector Reena Neelam Kujur, Rani Subran Kunwar award – SI Durgeshwari Choubey, Veernarayan award – CR Dhruv and DGP award – Prahlad Verma.
The rehearsal for march past was done by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans, NCC, Scouts and Guides and 20 platoons. This year, the CRPF’s march past team will be led by SI Raju Naik, CISF team by SI Jogendra Singh and CAF team by platoon commander Girdhari Lal. The team of Special Task Force (STF) will be led by Kishorilal Verma while SI Mallika Banerjee will lead state’s women’s police team.
BJP stages dharna against misuse of CBI by Cong

The BJP (Raipur district) on Friday staged a day-long dharna and took out a justice rally protesting misuse of CBI by the Congress-lied UPA government at the Centre. Later, the BJP leaders submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Collector on the name of President Pratibha Patil.
Taking a dig at UPA’s government’s works, the BJP’s state vice president Sachchidanand Upasne alleged that the Congress had overtly misused constitutional bodies whenever it came in power at the Centre. The Congress is not only utilising CBI for its vested interests, but is also ridiculing the orders of judiciary, he said.
Pointing towards alleged fake encounter case of Sohrabuddin Sheikh that has sullied Narendra Modi-led Gujarat government’s democratic reputation, Upasne said that the Congress always attempted to weaken the democracy. He said the Centre wants to dissolve Gujarat Assembly under planned conspiracy by conducting CBI inquiry into Sohrabuddin case and trapping top BJP leaders of along with cops labeling false charges.
The other BJP leaders said that CBI had ceased to be the trustworthy organisation and had become the agent of Congress and its allies at Centre. They further charged that the Union government use CBI to bully regional parties and compel their parliamentarians to support it in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The BJP leaders indicated that the UPA shrewdly refrained to conduct CBI probe into major cases like Taj corridor case in which the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati was allegedly involved, into fodder scam in which former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav was alleged involved and into shameless cash bribing case in the parliament in which Mulayam Singh was allegedly involved.
338 Aldermen nominated in civic bodies

Urban Administration and Development department has nominated 338 Aldermen. All the Aldermen belong to BJP. According to information, each municipal corporation will have six Aldermen while each municipal council will have four Aldermen. Similarly, there will be two Aldermen in each Nagar Panchayat. Sources informed that the BJP had picked only those party workers for Aldermen posts who had shown active participation in the civic body elections. The party’s state general secretary Rampratap Singh had finalised the names of these Aldermen last month by taking consent of MPs, ministers and MLAs. However, the final list issued by the government on Friday had shocked various BJP workers who were expecting their names to be announced. The Aldermen are nominated corporators who receive salary and other allowances like the elected corporators besides having all the rights. However, they do not have right to cast vote in the general body meeting. The Aldermen nominated for Raipur Municipal Corporation are – Viththalbhai Patel, Kamal Harpal, Haji Munna, Babla Shah, Yogesh Shende and Pareshwar Bagh.

The municipal corporation’s Culture department will organise a tribute programme on the occasion of martyr Pankaj Vikram’s death anniversary before of his statue at Vivekanand Nagar complex at 10 am on Saturday. Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak has appealed to RMC Speaker Sanjay Shrivastava, all the Mayor-in-Council (MiC) members, corporators, municipal staffers and citizens to pay rich tribute to martyr Pankaj Vikram by attending the programme in large number.
Mutton markets to remain close on I-Day

The municipal corporation on Friday issued a directive that all the mutton markets would have to keep their shops close on Independence Day (August 15, 2010). Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak informed that the Urban Administration and Development department had instructed to prohibit the slaughtering of animals and selling of meat within the municipal limits and the RMC would take stern action against those who would flout directives besides imposing heavy fine on them. The civic administration has asked all the zonal sanitary inspectors to keep an eye on the mutton shops on August 15.

10,000 saplings to be planted in Atari oxyzone area

The RMC will plant 10,000 saplings in Atari oxyzone area (Veer Sawarkar Nagar ward) this monsoon. The announcement was done by Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak during the plantation programme that held in Atari on Friday.
On the occasion, Nayak along with Speaker Sanjay Shrivastava, president of RMC’s Horticulture department Asha Israel Joseph, Mayor-in-Council (MiC) members Chandra Behra and Anamika Sahu, corporators Kavita Gwalani, Rekha Ramteke, Anita Futan, Bajrang Nishad, zonal staffers and local residents planted about 2-5 feet height 250 saplings of different varieties.
Nayak informed that the RMC had decided to plant over 40,000 saplings during the current monsoon season out of which 10,000 had been planted in various wards with the joint coordination of zonal staffers and inhabitants.
Nayak appealed to the people to help the RMC in making the city green by participating in its plantation campaign.
