Cong to Guv: Govt failed to check black-marketing of fertilisers

Raipur, Aug 12, 2010

Expressing their concern over the scarcity of chemical fertiliser in the state and its black-marketing, a delegation of Congress leaders led by PCC president Dhanendra Sahu and Leader of Opposition in VS Ravindra Choubey met Governor Shekhar Dutt at Rajbhawan and submitted a memorandum in this regard on Thursday. The delegation alleged that the government had failed to check the black-marketing of fertiliser and consequently businessmen were selling fertiliser to the farmers at very high rates than its actual cost.
The Congress leaders informed the Governor that the cooperative societies do not have fertilisers like Urea and DAP (diammonium phosphate) owing to which the farmers had to purchase them from the open market where too the supply was scanty. Taking benefit of the situation, the black-marketeers are making huge profit, they said. The Congress leaders further alleged that the fertilisers available in some cooperative societies were being sold at about twice the actual rates.
The Congress leaders blamed the government for creating artificial scarcity of fertiliser in the cooperative societies and market with and ulterior motive to benefit the black-marketeers.
They demanded that the government should stop protecting the black-marketeers and must ensure smooth supply of fertilisers in all the cooperatives societies.
The delegation was comprised of legislators Dharmjeet Singh, Amitesh Shukla, Kawasi Lakhma, PCC Spokesperson Ramesh Varlyani and other party leaders.
