With no RMC authorities in city, officials relaxing

Raipur, January 29, 2010

Raipur Municipal Corporation’s (RMC) officials and employees are in a holiday mood nowadays in spite of coming to office regularly. And they are relaxed because Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak, Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary and Speaker Sanjay Shrivastava are out of station for next couple of days. According to information, in the absence of the trio, a majority of municipal works have been affected and the staffers are rarely showing interest to complete their pending works.
Notably, Mayor and Speaker have gone to Ahmedabad to attend Municipalika 2010 - the three-day 8th International Exhibition and Conference on Municipal Services, Urban Development & Public Works that had commenced from January 28 while the Commissioner has gone to Udaipur pertaining to official works and is expected to return on February 2.
After assuming the office, the Mayor intensely toured to a number of wards and had given instructions to the officials to ensure proper cleanliness those areas. But such sanitary drives have either come to a temporary halt or are running at snail’s pace because the responsible officials are not monitoring the progress works of their respective areas through frequent site visits, but instead they are staying back at office, informed sources.
Some RMC staffers think that the schedules of Mayor and Commissioner to remain out of station should have not overlapped and at least one of them should have remained in the capital to issue significant instructions. “We are close to the end of the financial year as only two months are remaining in this last quarter and during this period, we usually focus in recovering maximum revenue for which guidance and direction of Mayor or Commissioner is necessary,” said some of the municipal employees.
