Cong demands apology from Gadkari

Raipur, July 16, 2010
Condemning BJP national president Nitin Gadkari's recent remarks over AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh, the state Congress has demanded public apology from Gadkari. The PCC spokesperson Iqbal Ahmed Rizvi and other leaders in a joint release said Gadkari’s remarks against Digvijay Singh were utterly uncivilised, irresponsible and lacked political courtesy. Notably the verbal duel between the BJP and Congress began after Gadkari first commented on Congress while he was addressing a public rally in Dehradun by questioning why Afzal Guru was getting special treatment and whether he was the son-in-law of Congress. Although, the BJP termed it a constructive statement, but the Congress had advised that the BJP chief should be referred to a psychiatrist. Later, Digvijay Singh hit at BJP raising his doubts about the Batla House encounter in October 2008 and termed it fake. Enraged by Digvijay Singh’s statement, Gadkari this time came out more heavily and referred to Digvijay Singh as ‘Aurangzeb ki aulad’ or the offspring of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.

RMC to establish biomedical waster disposal unit

Raipur, July 16, 2010

To rid the city capital city from environmental pollution due to biomedical waste, the RMC will establish a disposal unit. The decision was taken during a joint meeting of RMC and representatives of medical college, Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board (CECB) and E-Tech Project Private Limited, an environment and renewable energy consultancy and turnkey solution provider. Chairing the meeting, Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak said the RMC would provide the required land for establishment of the biomedical waste disposal unit.
The representative of E-tech Mohammad Siraz Ahmed informed that the RMC would also have to install incinerator that would cost about Rs 40 lakh. The doctors representing medical college said considering the number of nursing homes and private hospitals that had gone past 200, the RMC would have to provide at least 3-4 acre land. Nayak said soon the municipal would also invite tenders for incinerator.
Notably, a delegation of doctors representing nursing homes and private hospitals had recently met Nayak and had urged her to make proper arrangements to dispose of the biomedical waste.
She also expressed her concern over the rising industrial pollution in the city and asked the CECB officials to take proper action on polluting factories. The CECB Superintendent Engineer RP Tiwari suggested that the RMC and the board should constitute a joint team that would conduct survey of all the industries being established within municipal limits to prepare a list of polluting units for inspection.

Anarchy prevails in city due to Mayor’s biased policies: BJP

To stage ward-wise dharna to expose ruling Congress from July 19th

Raipur, July 16, 2010

BJP corporators have alleged that anarchy prevailed in the city due to Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak’s biased policies that had been framed in favour of Congress corporators. The allegation was leveled by the BJP corporators during the review meeting of municipal corporation’s development works in the past six months. The meeting was convened by the leader of BJP corporators Subhash Tiwari.
The BJP has also decided to expose the flawed policies of Congress-led RMC by staging ward-wise dharna from July 19, 2010. Raising the issue of sanitation, the BJP corporators said the capital had worn a filthy look owing to heap of garbage lying in public places. They said in spite of predefined route charts, the RMC do not send the 3Ds and dumpers to their wards to carry out sanitary works. Pointing towards the number of sanitation staff allotted for their wards that ranges from 30-35 as compared to other wards represented by Congress or independent corporators where strength of workers is around 45-50, the BJP corporators said the Mayor should stop playing politics and being partial on development factors.
Indicating lack of basic facilities in the wards including no street lights making the areas accident-prone, no repairing and construction of drains, roads, etc, the corporators alleged that such problems prevailed in their regions because of planned strategy of the ruling Congress.
Taking a dig at RMC’s policies, Tiwari said it was unfortunate that the sanitary works of the city had come to a virtual halt in the absence of no fresh contracts. He said even the contractors were hesitating to fill tender forms for sanitation due to flawed policies. He also raised the issue of waterlogging in the city during every rainy season and said the RMC had failed to make effective policy to prevent the occurrence of such problems in future.
Tiwari further criticised the ruling Congress for failing to make optimum use of Rs 5.50 crore being approved from the Disaster Management and Relief Fund. In spite of being aware of these problems, the Mayor had not called upon a meeting of Mayor-in-Council (MiC) for the past three months that signifies her apathy towards the people’s basic requirements, he added.
Considering the anarchic situation in the city, the BJP will submit a memorandum to the Speaker, Mayor and Commissioner and will demand to call general body meeting, he said.
