Cong to conduct fresh polls in Jashpur’s four blocks

After irregularities surfaced in these areas during Organisational elections

Polls in Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Dantewada, Jagdalpur today

Raipur, July 17, 2010

The Congress has decided to conduct fresh polls in four blocks of Jashpur district after it received reports of irregularities during Organisational elections in these areas on Saturday. The polls were held in six districts on Friday including Jashpur, Raigarh, Korba, Sarguja, Koria and Janjgir-Champa.
The AICC Assistant PRO Vijay Verma informed that the party was committed to organise fair and transparent polls and it would not tolerate any malpractice or irregularity during the process. “We are conducting Organisational polls to consolidate the party and to bring forward the dedicated workers who could contribute more by holding responsible posts,” Verma said.
He informed that the polls in urban block of Raigarh City could not be held owing to some problems. “We will also conduct fresh polls in this area and the date would be decided by chairperson of Organisational poll committee for Chhattisgarh Viplove Thakur,” he added.
The party conducted polls in five districts on Saturday including Rajnandgaon, Dhamtari, Kawardha, Mahasamund and Kanker. “Similar case of irregularity surfaced in Dhamtari owing to which the concerned District Returning Officer (DRO) stopped polling process,” he said.
The polls in Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Dantewada and Jagdalpur will be held on Sunday. Verma informed that the polls in Bilaspur city would be conducted on July 20 due to specific reasons.
“We are also waiting for the reports of the two sensitive districts – Dantewada and Jagdalpur and the polls would be postponed if the conditions would not be conducive there,” he said. Similarly, Raipur, Durg and Bilaspur being the major areas, the poll committee would keep a close tab on the activities there and would immediately postpone the polls if it would find irregularities there, he added.
He said the final decision for pending and postponed polls would be taken by Viplove Thakur.
“We have also given ample time to the DROs of those districts where polls have been completed to submit their comprehensive report and result by July 19 evening,” Verma said.

BJP corporators lock zone-7 office

Allege Cong-ruled RMC not carrying out development works in their wards

Raipur, July 17, 2010

Alleging that the Congress-ruled municipal corporation was deliberately ignoring the wards represented by the BJP and not carrying out developments works in such areas, the corporators from the opposition party comprising Prafulla Vishwakarma, Sunil Bandre, Dilip Sarthi, Bharti Bagal and others locked the zone-7 office on Saturday.
Vishwakarma informed that they locked the zone office as a mark of protest against the RMC’s apathy towards their wards. There were some civic officials engaged in preparing the bills of the contractors when the BJP corporators locked the office.
“We have to face embarrassing situations before the residents in the absence of any development work in our wards. People gave us mandate because they trusted us that we will fulfill our promise, but the RMC’s biased attitude has staked our image in our own areas,” he said.
Vishwakarma, who represents Tatya Para ward, said the problems were mounting in his area.
“The drinking water crisis in Bajrang Nagar still prevails in spite of rains. It is because the water pump of the area has gone out of order for past several months, however there is not heedful ear in the RMC’s Water Resources department. Before monsoon rains, the water was being supplied through tankers, but now even this facility has been pruned,” he complained.
Vishwakarma said he had also informed the civic authorities regarding polluted tap water in certain parts of his ward, but was still waiting for necessary action.
The Jawahar Nagar ward corporator Bharti Bagal informed that poor sanitary arrangements in her area had severely irked the residents. Ridiculing the claims of sanitation department that it had launched dense cleanliness drive in the capital, she said the heap of garbage near Nivedita School at Guru Nanak chowk stated ground realty. Similarly, a number of areas are deprived of basic amenities including road, water and street light, but no development work has been commenced in such places so far, she said.
Notably, to protest the municipal’s apathy towards their wards, the BJP corporators on Friday had decided to stage ward-wise dharna from July 19, 2010.
The infuriated BJP corporators have also demanded from Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak to step down holding her responsible for the no development works in their areas and poor sanitary arrangements across the capital city.
