To hold talks on single-point agenda
Raipur, July 19, 2010
Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak has called upon a special Mayor-in-Council (MiC) meeting on single-point agenda at her office on Tuesday. The RMC Secretariate, although confirmed that Nayak had called upon the meeting using her discretionary powers, but refused to disclose the agenda.
Sources informed that the objective of special meeting was to chalk out strategy to discuss on the recent bulk transfer of the RMC officials and to mount pressure on the government for its revocation.
Nayak also held discussion with the MiC members in this connection at her office on Monday. She also reportedly discussed on developmental factors that are lacking in the wards because of fund crisis and civic administration’s alleged indifferent attitude. The BJP’s ward-wise dharna against the Congress-ruled RMC from Monday due to no development works in their areas has also put the MiC in defensive mode.
Nayak was severely enraged with sudden transfer of too many RMC officials and had expressed her concern that the city’s development would be greatly affected in the absence of experienced staff. She alleged that the entire crew of experts from top to bottom rank had been transferred and the ‘deliberate decision’ was intended to make the politically elected municipal body handicapped.
The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) has also criticised the Urban Administration and Development Department’s move and termed it failed attempt to discourage Nayak. The PCC, too, demanded from the government to annul the ‘biased directive’ and to support the RMC in developing the city into a model capital.
