RMC to launch drive against illegal hoardings from Aug 9

Raipur, Aug 06, 2010

The RMC will launch a campaign to remove the illegal hoardings from the capital from August 9, 2010. The civic commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary issued directives in this regard during a review meeting of ongoing development works that held in his office on Friday.
Notably, the RMC had recently invited fresh tenders to remove illegal hoardings from the city in which the interested agencies were asked to submit their tender forms quoting the rates of 3D machine, cutter machine, labourers, etc. The last date to submit the tender forms was July 23, 2010.
The civic administration has completed the tender process and had given the work orders to the eligible contractors. According to contract, the agencies would have to complete their work within this financial year.
Considering rising parking problem in the city that directly affecting the traffic frequently, Choudhary instructed Town Planner Sandeep Bagde to identify and seal all the commercial complexes in the city which are misusing their parking space at basement.
He asked the zone commissioners to appeal the residents of their areas to do plantation and help the municipal in making the city green. Besides, he said people should also be encouraged to conserve water and to install water harvesting system in their houses.
On illegal hoardings, Choudhary has categorically directed Bagde to ensure that the contractors complete their job in the given timeframe and to prepare a comprehensive report containing details of timely finished works and pending or delayed ones. He asked Bagde to regularly review the progress of drive against illegal hoardings besides monitoring it.
The municipal corporation has been taking continuous action against the illegal hoardings for the past couple of months by removing billboards, banners and posters being erected in the public places and posing threat to people. In this regard, both Choudhary and Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak felt that illegal hoardings would only be removed from the city when a drive would be launched. This resulted in fresh tenders for the project.
Recently, Nayak had instructed Bagde to ensure that the advertising agencies may not erect any hoarding without getting registered with the municipal. In addition, she had said that the advertising agencies should also display their registration numbers and validity period in the hoardings mentioning.
The RMC will also pose stern face against the hoarding being erected on the rooftops. The officials have been asked to serve notices to the advertising agencies to quickly remove their hoardings erected over the rooftops besides cautioning the house owners who provide space to agencies on rental basis.
Nayak has made it apparent that the municipal would not tolerate any negligence towards the security of the people. “The areas having large hoardings at the rooftops are more prone to accident, especially during the bad weather conditions. The RMC will ensure to remove all these hoardings at the earliest,” she said.
The RMC’s new hoarding policy has come into effect from April 1, 2010.  The Town Planning & Building permission department has warned the agencies that they would have to pay heavy fine against erection of illegal billboards in the city. In addition, the illegal hoarding owners would have to pay the annual rent apart from deposition of double the amount of the display fee.
