Unfazed by protesters, lovers celebrate Valentine’s Day

The aroma of love could easily be felt in the capital’s ambience as youths and couples were seen having ample fun on Valentine’s Day on Monday indicating that they were unfazed the threats given by various groups including some specific political parties.
However, the city’s gardens and parks in its periphery accounted fewer youths and couples as compared to the previous years because of threats posed by the extremists. “We knew the protesters of the Valentine’s Day will create problems for us owing to which we preferred other areas instead of gardens,” said a group of youngsters.
Couples however found refuge in the malls, as a host of these love birds were seen in the multiplexes. Movie tickets in Inox, PVR and Adlabs were booked three days in advance for Valentine’s Day.
“Our love life is yet to start, but we are not at all desperate about it,” said Richa Dubey and Sneha Kher laughingly. The duo was celebrating Valentine’s Day in each others company at Magneto Mall here. They further shared, “We watched SRK’s My Name Is Khan today and then rushed to the nearby eating joint to consume a variety of foodstuffs.,” chirped the duo.  “A person does not need to enter into any relationship to have fun. Friends are more than enough for an individual to have fun and enjoy life. There are many people in the mall who spent this day of love with friends and family members and had a great time,” said Richa.  
Confessions and declarations of love came from admirers in various ways from the conventional love notes and flowers to expensive and all fancy greeting card. Roses were sold for an exorbitant price ranging from Rs 25 to Rs 50 each. A flower shop owner informed that the bouquets from Rs 100 to Rs 15,000 were sold. Gift shops were jam packed where customers flocked to purchase cards, gifts etc.

 

Workshop on annual exam preps held during 1st anniversary of Sanjeevani old age home

Badhte Kadam, a non governmental organisation, on Sunday organised a workshop on preparation of annual examinations on the occasion of the first anniversary of its Sanjeevani old age home here at Kota Road, Gudhyari on Sunday.
As many as 172 students who have been adopted by Badte Kadam attended the workshop. These 172 students are studying in different schools and colleges. Principal of Chatrapati Shivaji Higher Secondary School Mukesh Shah, who was the chief guest of the workshop, provided significant tips to the student regarding concentration in studies and the methods to condition the mind to cope with examination pressure. The organisation’s, general secretary Basnat Rohara informed that about Rs 4 lacks is being spent annually in providing education to the 172 adopted students.  Destitute students from slums who had an inclination towards studies but were unable to continue have been given an opportunity to strive for a better future, irrespective of caste or religion, he said.
Rohara, while speaking about Sanjeevani old age home, informed that there were 18 elderly persons who were being given full attention by the organisation. These residents are not only provided with best of facilities but are also given medical treatment in private hospitals and the entire expenses are being incurred by Badte Kadam, he further informed.
Badte Kadam further plans to acquire a new building where an orphanage along with one old age home will be established with an aim to provide the elderly a family like atmosphere.


Handicapped mass marriage

The sixth handicapped mass marriage ceremony was organised under the joint aegis of Akhil Bhartiya Viklang Chetana Parishad (ABVCP), Kanyakubj Sabha Shiksha Mandal, Marwadi Yuva Manch Raipur Central, Senior Citizen Welfare Forum and Hariyana Seva Sangh at Ashirvad Bhawan here on Sunday. As many as 56 couples entered into wedlock in the ceremony. Agriculture Minister Chandrashekhar Sahu was the chief guest for the programme while Chief Minister Raman Singh’s wife Veena Singh was the guest of honour. The programme was presided over by the ABVCP’s national general secretary Dr DP Agrawal. The other distinguished guests on the occasion were Professor Vinod Asudani from Nagpur, Director of Regional Reserve Bank Nagpur, Rajesh Asudani and GS Patnayak along with the ABVCP’s national organising secretary Sitaram Agrawal, State President Ramanand Agrawal, State General Secretary Satyendra Agrawal and other members of the organisation.


Effigy of terrorists burnt

Bhagwa Brigade, a social Hindu organisation on Sunday burnt the effigy of terrorism in protest of Pune bomb blast. State Coordinator of the Brigade Ghanshyam Choudhary said that Indian National Congress led United Progressive Alliance government should stop the Muslim vote bank politics and demanded the Union Government to hang Afzal Guru and Azmal Kasab. State Spokesperson Amit Singh, Bholendra Thakur, Raja Rajak, Manoj Barik, Kiran Wankhede, Ghanshyam Rathore, Priyesh Rai, Sagar Jain, Suraj Manikpuri, Somnath Sawarkar, Raju Sahu, Richi Mishra, Roshan Sahu and others were also present on the occasion.
             

Eye check-up camp

Amrapur Janseva Trust and Sri Prem Prakash Ashram Seva Samiti (SPASS) jointly organised eye check up camp at SPASS premises on Sunday. About 500 patients were checked up in the camp. Ophthalmologists Dr Anil Gupta, Dr VK Jaiswal, Dr Ajay Sahay, Dr KK Birla and Dr Mahesh Lalwani are rendering their services in the camp. Media Manager of the SPASS Kanhaiyalal Motwani informed that the operation of cataract would be held through lance transplant method at Sri Ganesh Eye Hospital, Priyadarshani Nagar on February 15, 16 and 17. The medicines and spectacles will be also given to the patients, he added.
               
 
CM announces to increase 45 seats in Ayurvedic College

Total seats will be 100, institute also get new auditorium

Chief Minister Raman Singh has announced to increase 45 seats in more than five decade old Ayurvedic College. He also announced that the institute would soon have its own new auditorium with the capacity of about 500 seats. The CM’s announcement came during the two-day ayurveda conference that commenced here in the institute on Sunday.
Presently, the college is having 55 seats in the first year. With 45 new seats, the total capacity will be 100 which would provide ample opportunity to the students aspiring to take admission in Ayurvedic College, Singh said.
He said people across the world were gradually becoming aware about the significance of ayurveda. “In the recent past, there has been a tremendous rise in the market of ayurvedic medicines in the world. Still, we need to raise the manufacturing norms for which our teachers and students will have to conduct ample research works,” he said.
Speaking about sickle cell anaemia, Singh said, “This is a genetic disease which will pose major challenge in future. The government has conducted initial survey about the impact of the disease in the state after which we learnt that about 18-20 percent of the state population is either suffering from this problem or is carrying the virus.” He emphasised that the ayurveda experts should work on finding treatment of this problem.
“The government has made a roadmap for the next five years in which the state’s 2.10 crore population would be screened to prepare a medical report. This will enable us to know the exact impact of sickle cell anaemia and other diseases in the state,” Singh added. He felt that the society also needed awareness about the importance of blood group. “Like we match horoscope during marriage, the blood groups of the boy and girl should also be matched,” he said.
Singh informed that an international-level conference on sickle cell anaemia would be held in November 2010 in which experts from various countries including China and South Africa. This conference will give exposure to the students about scientific views regarding different treatment methods including allopathy, homeopathy and ayurveda, he said.
Tourism, Culture, School Education and PWD Minister Brijmohan Agrawal in his address also shed light on the significance of ayurveda and informed that he himself is suffering from diabetes but has maintained his health because he regularly takes allopathic and ayurvedic medicines.


CSP to stage dharna against corruption today

Chhattisgarhi Samaj Party (CSP) will stage a daylong dharna at Azad Chowk against rising corruption in the state on Monday. “The state government has failed to uproot corruption owing to the common mass is suffering,” said the party’s working president Anil Dubey while talking to the media persons here on Sunday.
“In the past seven years, the corruption level in the state has skyrocketed, however the ruling BJP government has kept its eyes shut,” said Dubey.
He further indicated that the government is deliberately giving asylum to the corrupt officials, politicians and businessmen owing to which a specific section of the society is becoming richer and the financially weaker class is becoming poorer.
He said the CSP would launch an aggressive campaign against government’s indifferent attitude towards eradication of corruption. Dubey was accompanied by CSP President GP Chandrakar during the press conference.


Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi on Mar 2

Siratun-Nabi Committee (SNC) will celebrate Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi on March 2, 2010 with religious fervour. Addressing media persons here on Sunday, the president of the committee Hashim Khan said that Jamal Raza Noori from Bareli would deliver discourse on March 2 while the women’s programme would be be held on the following day. On March 4, the SNC will organise an All India Natiya Mushayara at Sirat Maidan Baijnathpara. Taj Raza Aurangabadi from Jharkhand, Hasan Nawaz from Siwan, Istiyaq Rahbar from Bhagalpur, Sabir from Jabalpur and Nazir Husein Manjar from Kolkata will take part in the Mushayara. He said the date of procession was still undecided but would be taken out either on February 26 or 27 after the appearance of moon.
The committee has demanded from the state government to prevent the sale of liquor on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi. The construction of Haj House will be started very soon while the safety of graveyard will be also ensured in the capital, said Khan.
